If you’re considering a mommy makeover in Scottsdale, you probably have a lot of questions you want answered before scheduling an appointment. We’re here to answer those questions for you and put your mind at ease. Check out our mommy makeover FAQs below to learn more about this cosmetic procedure.

What Is a Mommy Makeover?

A mommy makeover is a customizable combination of body procedures that primarily target the breasts and abdomen. It’s an outpatient procedure, meaning that you can return home on the same day of surgery.

When Should I Have a Mommy Makeover?

We recommend waiting to undergo a mommy makeover until you’re done having children. That’s because having another child after surgery can reverse its results, which would be a waste of your time and money.

What Is Included in a Mommy Makeover?

A mommy makeover is a combination of four different plastic surgery procedures. Learn more about each one below.

  1. Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)
An abdominoplasty can be life-changing as it creates some of the most impressive results. It involves tightening and sculpting the abdominal muscles to leave a flatter, leaner stomach. A good surgeon will plan incisions wisely, so scarring is minimally visible.
  2. Breast Lift (Mastopexy)
A breast lift can be performed by itself or alongside an augmentation. A mastopexy tightens the skin, restoring firmness for a perkier appearance.
  3. Breast Augmentation
After childbearing, women sometimes lose volume in their breasts. Having a breast augmentation can restore both size and fullness. One of the most popular options is silicone implants for a natural feel.
  4. Liposuction
Liposuction—which consists of lipoplasty and body contouring—removes excess fat from various parts of the body and shapes those areas. Common focus areas include the thighs, hips, stomach, and arms.

With mommy makeovers, it’s often possible to perform multiple procedures in one surgery, giving you your body and confidence back in no time.

Is a Mommy Makeover Done All at Once?

It’s up to you. Since a mommy makeover is customizable, you can choose to undergo all four surgeries at once, one at a time, or any combination in between.

The benefit of undergoing all four procedures at once is that you can enjoy a shorter recovery period. Instead of needing to recover after individual procedures, your body only requires one recovery period, which can also be more cost-effective.

What Is the Reason for a Mommy Makeover?

The purpose of a mommy makeover is to reverse the physical changes you undergo during pregnancy and breastfeeding and restore a more youthful appearance.

How Much Weight Should I Lose Before a Mommy Makeover?

We encourage mommy makeover candidates to be at a sustainable weight before undergoing the procedure. Reaching a weight that you can maintain post-surgery with a healthy diet and exercise regimen is key to achieving your desired results.

How Many Sizes Do You Lose With a Tummy Tuck?

While a mommy makeover removes excess fat and skin acquired during pregnancy and breastfeeding, it’s not intended to be a weight loss procedure. If your goal is to lose weight after pregnancy, we recommend doing that before undergoing a mommy makeover. This combination of procedures is designed to tighten skin and muscles and shape the body.

How Long Before a Mommy Makeover Should I Stop Nursing?

We typically recommend that moms stop nursing anywhere from three to six months before undergoing a mommy makeover. That’s because your breasts expand when you breastfeed, as the underlying tissue makes room for the milk supply.

Waiting three to six months allows the milk supply to subside and the breasts to contract to their regular size. This is particularly helpful if you undergo breast augmentation as part of your mommy makeover. Undergoing this procedure too soon can result in new breasts that don’t meet your size expectations.

Can a Tummy Tuck Incision Be Made Over a C-Section Scar?

Yes, a tummy tuck incision can be made over a C-section scar. C-section scars are often higher up on the abdomen than women prefer. Dr. Mazaheri can make the tummy tuck incision below the C-section scar to remove the skin containing that scar during the procedure.

Can a Tummy Tuck Help With #Momproblems Like Lower Back Pain?

Yes, a tummy tuck can help with post-pregnancy problems like lower back pain. Your abdominal muscles separate during pregnancy, which diminishes your core strength. This puts additional strain on your back because it takes on the role of supporting the rest of your body when you sit and stand up. The tummy tuck portion of a mommy makeover realigns those abdominal muscles and restores your core strength, which reduces back strain.

How Should I Prepare for a Mommy Makeover?

Here are a few practical ways that you can prepare for your mommy makeover.

  1. Stop taking any blood-thinning medications and herbal supplements two to four weeks before your surgery to minimize bleeding.
  2. Stop smoking.
  3. Arrange a ride to and from the outpatient facility on the day of your surgery. You will not be able to drive yourself home due to the anesthesia and pain medication.
  4. Coordinate a childcare plan for the period during which you will have surgery and recover.
  5. Prepare a designated area in your home where you will recover. Get plenty of pillows to help you sleep comfortably on your back, as you should refrain from sleeping on your side and stomach after a mommy makeover to allow for proper incision healing.

What Happens if You Lose Weight After a Mommy Makeover?

Don’t worry about losing a few pounds here and there after a mommy makeover. However, significant weight loss can reverse some of the effects of your mommy makeover, like tightened skin loosening. That’s why we recommend that patients be at their desired weight before a mommy makeover so they can maintain it after surgery.

What Is the Best Outfit to Wear After a Mommy Makeover?

Wearing comfortable, loose-fitting clothes that require minimal movement to put on and take off will simplify your daily routine and promote scar healing. Whether it’s pajamas or a matching set, shirts that button are a great option because they don’t require you to lift your arms above your head or stretch your abdomen.

How Long Is the Recovery Period After a Mommy Makeover?

Just like any surgery, a mommy makeover requires recovery time. It varies based on what procedures you get and when. Most patients take anywhere from seven to ten days to resume normal activities. However, it will take one to two months for the incisions to heal and the swelling to subside fully.

What Foods Should I Eat Post-Op to Accelerate the Healing Process?

Eat plenty of proteins—like meat, beans, and eggs—to rebuild muscles. Eat plenty of fiber-rich foods—like fruits and leafy greens—to reduce constipation. Be sure to drink plenty of water to keep your body hydrated.
