Will I be able to breastfeed after a breast reduction procedure?

The answer is MAYBE. As part of this procedure, breast tissue is removed to reduce the size and weight of your breast. This may affect your ability to breastfeed later. This is why I recommend undergoing this procedure once you are done with having children or you are certain you do not wish to breastfeed later.

Is breast reduction a painful procedure?

Generally, this is not very painful and most people require very little pain medication after surgery.

What Is Breast Explant Surgery

Breast explant surgery involves the surgical removal of silicone or saline breast implants. This procedure—which is also referred to as breast implant removal surgery—aims at restoring a patient’s original breast shape and size. Dr. Mazaheri may also decide to perform a capsulectomy, which involves removing scar tissue that has formed around the implants.

Top 3 Reasons People Have Their Breast Implants Removed

While patients have various reasons for wanting to have their breast implants removed, the following three are the most common:

Implant Complications: Some patients suffer from capsular contracture. This condition occurs when scar tissue forms around the implant and hardens, causing discomfort and often pain.
Implant Dissatisfaction: Other patients simply aren’t happy with the way their breast implants look and feel. Implants can become misshapen due to pregnancy, age, breastfeeding, and weight change.
Health Concerns: Although rare, some patients develop what’s called breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL). This is a type of cancer that forms in the scar tissue surrounding an implant and is most common with textured implants. Other health concerns include calcium building up around the implant and implants leaking or shifting.

Patients can choose to either replace the removed breast implants with new ones or no longer have implants. According to The American Society of Plastic Surgeons, breast implants should be removed or replaced every 10 to 15 years.
