What Is A Breast Lift (Mastopexy)?
It’s not unusual for women to go through body changes, especially after having children, aging, or losing weight. This includes losing firmness in the breasts, resulting in them starting to sag. Such changes can sometimes leave a woman feeling low in self-confidence, unable to wear the clothes she once wore, and have a negative self-image.
Luckily, a range of breast lift (mastopexy) options are available to address such changes, which is why more women are considering breast lift services more now than ever. In fact, in statistics published by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, breast lift uptake has increased by 92% over the last 16 years with 101,264 US women undergoing the procedure last year. The surgery tightens the skin and lifts the breasts for a firmer appearance.
As a specialist plastic and reconstructive surgeon, Dr. Mazaheri has performed thousands of procedures with over 20 years of experience. He offers breast lift surgery on an individual basis or combined with other procedures.

About the Procedure
Dr. Mazaheri has been specially trained in breast lifting procedures, whether you are in need of a traditional breast lift or you are looking for a lift + implant.
Breast lift, or mastopexy, surgery raises and firms the breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue to reshape and support the new breast contour. A breast lift can rejuvenate your figure with a breast profile that is more youthful and uplifted.
The results of your breast lift surgery are immediately visible. Over time, post-surgical swelling will resolve and incision lines will fade. Satisfaction with your new image should continue to grow as you recover from surgery. The final results of your breast lift will appear over the next few months as breast shape and position continue to settle. Incision lines are permanent but will continue to fade over time. The results of your breast lift surgery will be long lasting.
Are You a Candidate for a Breast Lift?
You may be a good candidate for this procedure if you meet one or more of the following criteria:
- You have been pregnant or have been breastfeeding
- You have had large weight fluctuations
- Your skin has lost elasticity due to aging
- Your areolas have become enlarged over time
- Heredity body issues
- Your skin has lost its elasticity or your areolas have enlarged
- You’re feeling bothered by the feeling of sagginess in your breasts and want to change both their position and appearance
- Your nipples and areolas point downwards
- One breast sags lower than the other
- Your breasts are flatter and have become more elongated in shape
Breast Lift (Mastopexy) Patients
It’s very important to understand all aspects of your breast lift procedure. It’s natural to feel some anxiety, whether it’s excitement for your anticipated new look or a bit of preoperative stress.
Be sure to ask questions. During your breast lift consultation, Dr. Mazaheri will discuss your surgical goals and discuss your options.
Will I have to get breast implants during a breast lift procedure?
Will I have to have that “anchor” scar on my breast after a mastopexy?
Will I lose all my nipple sensation after a lift procedure?

What are the different types of breast lifts?
Depending on the degree of breast ptosis, there are four different types of mastopexy your surgeon can perform.
Crescent lift – The smallest type of mastopexy, a crescent shaped piece of skin is removed from the top of the nipple-areolar complex.
Benelli/Donut lift – A ‘donut’ shaped piece of skin is taken from around the nipple-areolar complex.
Vertical/Lollipop lift – This type of mastopexy will leave a scar around the nipple-areolar complex and vertically down the breast to the crease.
Wise/Anchor lift – A scar is left around the nipple-areolar complex, vertical down the breast, and horizontal at the base of the breast along the crease.
The more breasts sag, the more skin needs to be removed, thus leaving a longer scar. During your consultation, your surgeon will examine your breasts and recommend the best procedure for your breast anatomy.
Rest assured, your nipple sensation should return to normal as the nerves are preserved during the procedure by keeping the nipple-areolar complex attached to underlying breast tissue.
Combining your breast lift with a breast augmentation.
