Say Goodbye to Sagging Breasts With a Breast Lift

Are you ready to feel more comfortable and confident in your skin? A breast lift may be just what you need. This plastic surgery removes excess skin and tightens breast tissue to give the breasts a more youthful appearance. Schedule a personal consultation with Dr. Mazaheri to see if this procedure is right for you.

Why Do Breasts Sag?

The six most common causes of sagging breasts include:

  1. Gravity
Breast ligaments expand and sag due to gravity.
  2. Breast Size
Larger breasts are more likely to stretch the skin and sag than smaller breasts.
  3. Weight Fluctuations
Undergoing significant weight loss often leaves behind excess skin and underlying tissue, including in the breasts.
  4. Smoking
When you smoke, your body produces more of an enzyme that breaks down collagen. Since collagen gives the skin its elasticity, decreased collagen production causes the skin to sag.
  5. Age
Breasts naturally lose elasticity and start to sag as you get older.
  6. Pregnancy
Breast tissue expands during pregnancy but shrinks to normal afterward, leaving excess skin that sags.

What Is a Breast Lift?

A breast lift—also called a mastopexy or boob lift—takes saggy boobs and turns them into perky breasts. Breasts lose firmness due to factors like aging, pregnancy, and weight loss. A breast lift removes excess skin, tightens the surrounding tissue, and raises the breasts on the chest—giving your breasts a more youthful appearance. You can choose between a traditional breast lift or a breast lift plus breast implantation.

Your surgeon may also perform the following:

  • Correct breast symmetry
  • Shrink the areola and face it upward
  • Reshape the breasts

When & Why a Breast Lift Becomes Necessary

Elastin and collagen are two proteins that give the skin its elasticity. The production of these proteins naturally declines as you age, which makes the skin sag. Common signs that you would benefit from a breast lift include the following:

  • Your breasts have started to sag
  • Your breasts look deflated
  • Your nipples have moved down the breast
  • Your areolas are abnormally enlarged

What You Can Expect

Here’s what you can expect before, during, and after your breast lift procedure.

Before the Procedure

  • You will schedule a personal consultation with Dr. Mazaheri to discuss the procedure and address any questions or concerns you may have.
  • You will discuss your breast goals, medical history, current medications, any family history of breast cancer, and alcohol, tobacco, and/or recreational drug use.
  • Dr. Mazaheri will examine and measure your breasts, mark the proposed surgical area with a marker or pen, take photos of your breasts, present available mastopexy options and recommend a procedure for you, and discuss surgical risks and anesthesia for pain control during surgery.
  • If you choose to undergo a breast lift, you will sign a surgical consent form stating that you understand the possible risks and permit Dr. Mazaheri to perform the surgery.
  • You will arrive at the surgical center on the day of surgery before your scheduled slot to check in and complete any final paperwork.
  • You will change into a hospital gown, be placed on the surgical table, and be put under anesthesia.

During the Procedure

Dr. Mazaheri will perform the following steps during the procedure:

  • Mark the incision location with a marker or pen
  • Make small incisions along the designated area
  • Remove excess skin, tighten surrounding tissue, and lift the breast
  • Raise the areolas and nipples
  • Insert breast implants, if you’re also undergoing breast augmentation
  • Close the incisions
  • Place surgical bandages on your breasts to aid in the healing process

The surgery itself typically takes between one and two hours to complete.

After the Procedure

You should be able to go home on the same day of your surgery, after waking up from the anesthesia and being monitored for a few hours in recovery. You will need a family member or friend to drive you home from the surgical center and spend the first night with you. Closely follow all post-operative care instructions provided by your surgeon to ensure proper healing and recovery.

3 Myths About Sagging Breasts

Myth #1: Breastfeeding causes breasts to sag.
Fact #1: The Cooper’s ligament—which maintains the structural integrity of the breasts—only stretches during pregnancy, not breastfeeding.

Myth #2: Walking and running can cause the breasts to sag, and certain exercises can prevent sagging.
Fact #2: Walking and running don’t cause breast sagging. Not wearing a sports bra while walking and running may strain the skin on your breasts, though. Chest exercises don’t benefit the tissue and ligaments in the breasts.

Myth #3: Not wearing a bra causes breast sagging.
Fact #3: While not wearing a bra may strain the skin on your breasts, it won’t cause the skin to sag.

Do I Need Breast Implants to Fix Sagging Breasts?

You don’t need breast implants to fix sagging breasts. The breast lift alone achieves this goal. However, you may choose to undergo a breast lift and a breast augmentation to lift the breasts and enhance breast volume.

3 Benefits of Combining a Breast Lift With Breast Implants

If you’re concerned about your breasts sagging and being either smaller or flatter than before, getting breast implants along with undergoing a breast lift will provide the results you want. Here are the top three benefits of combining these two common breast procedures.

  1. Safety: Patients who undergo a combination breast lift and breast implant procedure do not face a greater risk of complications than patients who undergo just one of these procedures.
  2. Quicker Results & Recovery: Getting a breast lift and breast implants simultaneously cuts your recovery time in half. Rather than recovering from each procedure separately, you can recover from both at once and achieve your desired results more quickly.
  3. Enhanced Confidence: A breast lift and breast implant surgery will give you the confidence boost you need by helping you look and feel your best.

Can Saggy Breasts Be Lifted Naturally?

Implementing habits like proper posture, diet, and hydration benefit the health of your skin, including the skin on your breasts. However, these habits can only do so much. Only a breast lift can provide the solution you want for your sagging breasts.
